What does “use my benefits before the end of the year” mean?
You may have dental insurance benefits that expire at the end of the year! Those benefits are like cash in your pocket. Dollars to spend at the dental office. If you don’t use them before December 31st, poof! They are gone. We encourage everyone to use your dental insurance benefits before your benefits expire. Many insurance benefits expire at the end of the calendar year.
Instead of letting your benefits expire, call a dental office and see what services you can get before the end of the year. Many times its possible to get an exam, imaging and dental cleaning before the end of the year and insurance typically pays for all of those visits.
Who is my dental insurance company?
Many companies provide dental insurance to their team members in addition to their medical insurance. If you haven’t received a separate dental insurance card from your employer, don’t panic! Call your HR department and they can tell you the name of your dental insurance company. Once you know the name of your company, we can probably help you find your coverage.
If you are a senior who has medical insurance through Medicare, you may have also dental benefits. To find out you can check your insurance plan benefits on the Medicare.gov website. It’s simple, just enter your zip code and look for your medical insurance plan. From there you can check to see if your medical plan offers dental benefits. Typically Medicare Advantage plans offer dental insurance.
How do I find out what my dental benefits are?
Unsure of your benefits and when they expire? Most dental insurance companies have online access. Go to your insurers website and register. Once on their site, you can access how much in benefits you have, what they will cover and what your maximum benefits are. Your dental insurance company’s online portal is a gold mine of information. Are you serious about using up some benefits?
Yes! It is in your best interest to use your dental insurance benefits before they expire, even if it is for a dental cleaning, exam and imaging. Know that your oral health is in great shape by seeing a dental professional. If any problems exist, you can get them fixed and if necessary, use your benefits in the next calendar year.
Don’t waste time. At our office, you can see a dentist within a day or two. In many cases, advanced dental treatment can be completed by the end of the year. However, the closer you get to the end of the year, the more challenging getting your treatment completed becomes. Treatment times vary significantly so you will want to ask how long treatment will take. Even if you are down to the wire, most insurance companies will cover an exam, imaging and a cleaning in full as long as it is done before the end of the year.
I don’t have insurance, is it too late for me?
If you don’t have insurance this year, come see us. We try to offer discounts for individuals without insurance coverage. Before the end of the year, gift yourself some dental insurance. You can purchase some plans online. When purchasing plans online, be aware that many have waiting periods for major work. Always check the details.
